Category Manager - Capital

Purpose of Role: This role is responsible for all spend in a designated category.
It reflects a commitment to invest in transforming how The Crown Estate procures and manages supplier spend.
The role holder prioritises development of category strategies for an area in order to identify, and deliver on, a pipeline of value, including quick win cost savings, in addition to supplier consolidation opportunities.
The role will also influence and support a procurement transformation programme which is implementing procurement best practice processes, technologies to improve user-experience and to provide better value.
Main accountabilities:
• Responsible for developing category strategies for a given area services supplier
spend and development and delivery of a pipeline of value
• Development of trusted-advisor relationships with the business, engaging early
in the decision-cycle, understanding business needs and gaps, providing value
• Ensuring sourcing process followed complies with internal governance process
and public sector procurement regulations
• Lead/Support the business stakeholders in negotiating competitive
contracts/frameworks with suppliers to drive best value and cost reduction.
• Support the annual budgeting process
• Develop the sustainability (‘Scope 3’) roadmap for the category and support
collection of ‘Scope 3’ data, in conjunction with the Sustainable Procurement
Manager
• Maximise spend under contract
• Consolidate supply base
• Develop and maintain supplier relationships with key suppliers to improve
supplier performance
• Support stakeholders in managing and resolving poor supplier performance
• Support the implementation and wider adoption of improved Source to Pay (S2P)
process and technology, both within the procurement team and across the wider
Enterprise
Most important skills based requirements:
- Proven experience developing and executing category strategies for
professional services related spend with good knowledge of supplier sector benchmark pricing - Familiarity with public sector procurement regulations is essential
- Contract management / negotiation and supplier relationship management skills are essential.
- Business Partnering skills are essential
