As the Master and Metadata Manager, you will play a pivotal role in managing and maintaining our The Crown Estate's master data and metadata, ensuring its accuracy across various systems and platforms. This role is crucial in supporting our data governance initiatives and wider strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Support: Assist the Director of Data Management and Governance in creating and implementing the Master Data Management Strategy.
- Framework Development: Define and deliver an enterprise-wide master data and metadata framework, policy, and measurable standards for data management.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Influence and collaborate with business stakeholders to standardise master data and metadata definitions and processes.
- Adoption and Buy-In: Ensure stakeholder buy-in and adoption of data management requirements and best practices.
- Data Catalogue Management: Define standards for data catalogues/dictionaries and ensure appropriate tooling is in place.
- Metadata Repositories: Create and manage metadata repositories and catalogues, ensuring their availability, accessibility, and usability for data users.
- Dashboard Design: Design and maintain dashboards for metadata management, tracking and reporting KPIs such as data accessibility, accuracy, and usage statistics.
- Quality Monitoring: Monitor and improve the quality of master data through regular assessments and audits.
- Governance Support: Provide guidance on master data and metadata management to support data governance initiatives.
- Training and Support: Offer training and support to data users on best practices in master data and metadata management.
Personal Requirements:
- Educational Background: Appropriate degree qualification or equivalent industry experience.
- Proven Experience: Demonstrated experience in running master data and metadata management programmes across an enterprise, including establishing frameworks and ensuring operational effectiveness.
- Data Quality Expertise: Experience in implementing data quality frameworks and working with tools designed for continuous improvement.
- Technical Knowledge: Understanding of data warehousing, integration practices, data modelling, and data architecture concepts.
- Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
- Communication Skills: Excellent ability to advocate for metadata initiatives within the organisation and persuade stakeholders of their value.
- Relationship Building: Ability to build relationships across the business and with key stakeholders, understanding the varying needs of different parts of the organisation.
- Self-Direction: Ability to self-direct and manage broad projects from beginning to end.
- Problem Solving: Effective problem-solving and analysis skills, with a willingness to make decisions and take action.

Desirable Experience:
- Property Sector: Experience in the property sector is an advantage.
- GIS Data: Experience with GIS data is an advantage.
- Emerging Technologies: Knowledge of emerging technologies (AI) and data automation tools that can improve metadata management processes.
- Data Security: Understanding of data security and privacy regulations and practices.
