Offshore Wind Innovation Manager

Purpose of Role: Accountable for managing a clear pathway through the complexities of the future form and function of offshore wind, in part driven by the increasing challenge of deeper waters, part by the opportunity to improve performance and operation, and part the interaction with the broader energy system. As a senior manager, the role will drive and leverage close collaboration both externally within industry, innovation bodies and academia, and internally with energy policy colleagues and adjacent sectors, including hydrogen, new energies and transmission. You will also work closely with our Marine Strategy and Planning and Technical teams contemplating inputs to, and feedback from TCEs Marine Delivery Routemap cognisant of the planned and necessary innovation pathways from the perspectives of the future siting of OSW and consideration of associated benefits to UK economy (including local supply chains), again working in partnership with others in the team.
To complement the strong marine spatial planning capability within the existing team, the Offshore Wind Innovation Manager will bring and maintain an authoritative understanding of innovation and technological aspects to ensure The Crown Estate maintains its role at the forefront of enabling and investing in the sector’s evolution and mobilising the UKs full potential in the global market. Most noticeably through our support and investments in testing and demonstration, seabed leasing and other catalysing activity.
Main accountabilities:
- Define and oversee The Crown Estates' role and activities within the OSW sector innovation space, and act as the core interface manager for wider energy system integration
- Foster collaboration and integration with the other relevant energy sector teams including the transmission portfolio, and energy policy and Supply Chain & Regions Manager and to assess the implications of energy systems and policy changes for OSW
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders and OSW customers, using the Key Account Model, to convey energy systems and policy implications
- Work with strategic delivery and sector leads to manage systems integration within OSW, with a focus on grid, energy storage and hydrogen integration
- Provide subject matter expertise and coordination of relations with industry-specific stakeholders and customers on energy systems and innovation, ensuring alignment with our wider OSW sector goals
- Drive innovation efforts within the OSW sector, leveraging technology insights and sector knowledge to promote sustainability
- Lead on the engagement of advisory services to deliver discrete or framework arrangements including overseeing contract management, ensuring effective negotiation, execution, and fulfilment of agreements
Knowledge, skills & Experience:
- Proven senior management/leadership experience in systems integration and /or innovation management, and stakeholder engagement, preferably within the renewable energy or power systems sectors
- Strong understanding of energy systems, policy dynamics, with a focus on their implications for the future of OSW
- Proficiency in technology insights and sector knowledge, with a keen interest in technology and innovation
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities for effective stakeholder engagement and relationship management
- Effective management and oversight of technical advisory services to deliver impact and value for money
