Carpenter
Job Summary
As a Carpenter at The Crown Estate, you will be responsible for the construction, maintenance, and restoration of timber structures across the Windsor estate. This includes work on historic buildings, park infrastructure, and bespoke woodwork projects. The role demands precision craftsmanship, a strong understanding of both traditional and modern carpentry techniques, and a commitment to preserving the heritage and functionality of the estate.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out general joinery and carpentry works across domestic, commercial, retail, and farm properties.
- Operate workshop machinery and produce bespoke joinery items.
- Repair or remake custom joinery including benches, traditional estate gates, and fencing.
- Liaise effectively with tenants, suppliers, and other tradespeople.
- Respond to emergency maintenance priorities.
- Perform external joinery repairs, including working at heights.
- Promote and adhere to health and safety regulations and legislation.
- Use mobile IT technology to manage work tasks in real time.
- Source appropriate timber based on size, strength, and budget.
- Install and repair fixtures and fittings (e.g., door handles, locks, hinges, kitchen units, worktops).
- Participate in the on-call rota for out-of-hours maintenance.
- Work flexibly as part of a team and independently.
- Assess and review additional carpentry or joinery refurbishment needs.
Experience Required
- Completion of an apprenticeship or equivalent qualification in carpentry.
- Experience working collaboratively within a team.
- Proven ability to deliver customer-focused services.
- Solid understanding of other building trades.
- Proficient in using milling machinery (e.g., cross-saw, planer, router).
Skills & Qualifications
- City & Guilds / NVQ Level 2 in Carpentry.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Discretion and confidentiality in handling estate matters.
- Full, clean UK driving licence.
- Ability to work at height in compliance with safety standards.
