Background: The Linear Assets team supports the UK’s data and energy security needs, providing land rights for all linear asset sectors in the offshore marine environment, tidal rivers & estuaries and coastal land, in England, Wales and Northern Ireland - subject to applicable legislative powers vested in The Crown Estate. The team covers three main asset sectors:
Telecommunications and data cables
Oil & gas pipelines (including gas interconnectors)
Electricity transmission cables and offshore electricity structures (including electricity interconnectors, and offshore wind connections)
The Linear Assets team has responsibility for delivering sector and customer needs through seabed lease management, covering the full lifecycle of sector planning & development, spatial planning, commercial lease development, operational lease management and asset decommissioning.
Purpose of Role:
The Asset Manager is a commercially oriented role responsible for maximising value to The Crown Estate through sustainable leasing of seabed for linear assets around England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The responsibilities of the role holder include customer management, managing delivery of lease obligations, developing new business, leading transactions and commercial negotiations, instructing lawyers and Managing Agents, revenue & cost management and financial forecasting.
A key requirement of the role is to strongly represent Linear Assets sector and customer needs within The Crown Estate, working collaboratively with representatives of other sectors and support functions within our Marine business. As a result, cross-team working is essential and expected.
The role also involves collaborative working with stakeholders across industry and government, including DESNZ, DSIT, NESO and regulatory authorities such as Ofgem, OfCom and the MMO, supporting strategic initiatives that facilitate the sustainable growth of the UK’s offshore energy and data security needs.
The Asset Manager role will report to a Portfolio Manager
Main accountabilities:
Manage customer relationships and implement CRM practices, including know your customer (“KYC”) processes
Manage seabed leases and licenses, ensuring landlord & tenant compliance with obligations, providing performance reports using data & analytics tools
Lead commercial negotiations and execute legal agreements
Understand customer business strategies and drive revenue growth by identifying new business opportunities through seabed services and products
Prioritize health and safety in asset management, promoting a safety culture with customers
Incorporate corporate sustainability goals in asset management practices
Monitor projects through planning and consenting processes and respond to planning consultations
Manage documentation using Sharepoint tools
Manage instructions with external lawyers and managing agents
Represent The Crown Estate at external events and build stakeholder relationships
Coordinate resources across Marine, Rural & Coastal and Corporate teams as required in delivery of asset management responsibilities
Manage enquiries in relation to interests in Crown land
Manage relationships with government and industry stakeholders (e.g. DESNZ, DSIT, MMO, Ofgem, ESCA, NESO) in support of relevant policy and regulatory developments
Most important skills based requirements:
Proficiency in land or property lease and asset management
Customer engagement and relationship management
Contract management & compliance
Understanding of offshore energy and data infrastructure (power cables, pipelines, data cables)
Excellent communication and collaboration skills to engage with internal colleagues, external customers, stakeholders, and partners
Proficiency in commercial contract negotiation
Proficiency in compliance and risk management
Understanding of risk assessment and management
Strong analytical skills
Understanding of health and safety practices and regulatory compliance
Proven delivery in cross-team working environments
