About the role
As Transparency Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring The Crown Estate meets its statutory obligations under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) and Environmental Information Regulations 2004 (EIR).
You will be the organisation’s specialist, responsible for managing information requests, guiding colleagues on exemptions, maintaining robust casework records, and strengthening our culture of compliance and openness.
This is a high‑impact role where your work directly supports public trust, organisational integrity, and the delivery of our strategic aspirations.
Key responsibilities
In this role, you will:
Manage timely, accurate and legally compliant responses to FOIA and EIR requests, including advising on exemptions and risk management.
Work collaboratively with Communications colleagues, central government departments and the Royal Household on sensitive or high‑profile cases.
Ensure accurate and complete records of all transparency casework, logs and related activity.
Provide expert advice, training and written guidance to teams across the organisation.
Maintain and improve our publication scheme and disclosure logs to enhance proactive transparency.
Keep up to date with legislative developments, case law and best practice.
Support annual reporting, internal stakeholder reporting, and—where required—ICO investigations and tribunal work.
Collaborate with colleagues across Legal, Ethics & Compliance, Records & Information Management, Risk and Information Security.
Contribute to a culture that promotes openness, accountability and alignment with our Purpose and Values.
About you
You will bring:
Knowledge & experience
Significant experience as an information rights practitioner, with deep expertise in FOIA and EIR.
Relevant training or qualifications in information rights.
Strong understanding of data protection, information security and records management best practice.
Experience engaging proactively and collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
Skills & capabilities
Excellent written communication skills, able to produce clear and legally robust responses.
Strong analytical ability, sound judgement and attention to detail.
Outstanding organisational skills, able to navigate multiple deadlines in a pressurised environment.
A proactive, customer‑focused approach and the ability to build strong relationships at all levels.
High personal integrity in handling sensitive or confidential information.
