Risk and Internal Audit Manager

Purpose of Role: The role is to be part of a team delivering internal audit and risk management support across TCE.
Main accountabilities:
The Risk and Internal Audit manager will be primarily responsible for delivering internal audit assignments, as well as, delivering risk management activities to support the business to own risk management.
Internal Audit and Risk Management Understanding:
- Technical knowledge of internal audit methodology, including audit delivery and reporting.
- Technical knowledge and practical experience of risk management methodology
- Corporate Governance requirements for risk and audit.
- Technical knowledge of the lines of defence model.
Activities will include;
Working across the business to deliver internal audit assignments and risk management activities.
- Work with teams in identification, scoring and management of risk – driving clear accountabilities in line with our operational excellence, compliance, safety first and customer experience programmes.
- As a team member delivering risk workshops, risk and governance deep dive reviews in areas of heightened risk or emerging areas of the business - driving clear accountabilities and ownership
- Understanding of Corporate Governance requirements for reporting Principle Risks and Material Controls.
- Supporting the delivery of control testing for either risk or internal audit, including:
- Effectiveness.
- Efficiency (including cost of control).
Attend and contribute to meetings with key stakeholders across the business and ensure audit and risk is appropriately escalated across TCE:
Supporting the business and learning areas such as Marine, Urban and Rural risk landscapes. Evaluating issues and determine when and how to escalate within the business.
Most important skills based requirements:
Experience
- Internal Audit, Control Testing, Assurance mapping and other assurance activities
- Risk management (experience of, but not essential, business continuity, insurance, cyber risk, insurance, programme risk, construction and development and sustainability)
- Business partnering experience and experience in considering commercial / financial risk exposure within an organisation.
- Experience working with third parties / contractors / SMEs
- Experience of working in both the third and second line function, and the ability to flex to enable first line function.
- Experience of working within a team to achieve a common goal.
- Working with other assurance providers, such as external audit and / or regulators.
Skills
- Excellent communication skills: ability to present information and ideas logically and succinctly; clearly explaining purpose and the assurance level for activities being undertaken.
- Communicating with impact to influence and inform.
- Ability to build effective partnerships with key stakeholders, including experience of working with a range of stakeholders in a business.
- Clear and methodical planning and project management approach to both audit and risk
- High attention to detail, with consideration of the wider and strategic business implications
- Demonstrable analytical skills, use of data analytics, analysis of risk and controls data. Data visualization skills would be preferable.
- Ability to work flexibly and collaboratively to meet deadlines and changing priorities.
- Strong Microsoft Office IT skills, particularly PowerPoint and Excel.
- Process improvement mindset
- Internal audit, controls or accounting qualifications would be preferrable.
