Purpose of Role:
The Legal & Compliance Operations Senior Manager is a newly created role intended to support the Legal & Compliance Operations Director in designing, implementing, and maintaining operational frameworks and processes for the Legal, Ethics & Compliance team. This role is pivotal in ensuring efficient, standardised and business-centric service delivery, driving continuous improvement and supporting digital/AI transformation and best practice adoption across the Legal, Ethics & Compliance department. The role includes line management responsibility for the team coordinator and contributes to the development of departmental capability, culture, and service excellence.
Main accountabilities:
• Support Function Set-Up: Work closely with the Director of Legal & Compliance Operations to help establish the newly created function, contributing to the design and delivery of its operating model, processes, and service offering.
• Framework Design & Implementation: Actively contribute to and assist in designing and implementing the operational framework that underpins the delivery of legal, ethics and compliance services, including the development of workflows, service standards, key performance indicators and ways of working that enable consistency, efficiency and compliance.
• Digital & AI Enablement: Research and assess digital tools, legal technology and AI solutions that could enhance operational delivery. Support the evaluation and implementation of selected platforms and systems, working in close alignment with other departments, including Procurement and Digital.
• Operationalisation of Policies & Procedures: Collaborate with legal, governance and compliance colleagues to ensure (as necessary) existing policies, procedures processes, training and guidance support effective and efficient compliance in the business’ day-to-day operations.
• Reporting Tools & Templates: Produce standardised reporting templates, dashboards and visuals to help the legal, ethics and compliance team track and communicate key metrics and insights in a business-centric manner.
• Training & Awareness Materials: Create and maintain training content, guidance documents, and awareness materials tailored to different business audiences, supporting the rollout of compliance initiatives and operational guidance.
• Operational Support: Provide hands-on support to the Legal, Ethics & Compliance function, including document management, process mapping, and coordination of activities.
• Stakeholder Liaison: Act as a point of contact for internal teams and external partners on legal, ethics & compliance matters, ensuring queries are responded to promptly and professionally.
• Systems & Data Management: Implement and maintain legal, ethics, governance and compliance systems and tools, ensuring data is accurate, well-organised, and supports reporting and workflow management.
• Process Improvement Contribution: Identify opportunities to streamline and improve operational processes, contributing to transformation initiatives and functional priorities.
• Line manage the team coordinator, providing guidance, support, and development opportunities to ensure efficient execution of administrative tasks and effective coordination of departmental activities.
• Promote a culture of integrity, transparency and continuous improvement throughout the execution of their tasks.
Most important skills based requirements:
• Experience in legal or compliance operations, ideally having performed a similar role in-house or within a private practice law firm, with exposure to operational delivery and transformation.
• Understanding of legal and compliance frameworks, and how to translate them into practical tools, workflows, and ways of working that support business compliance.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, structured materials such as templates, guidance documents, dashboards, and training content.
• Good working knowledge of digital tools and platforms, with a keen interest in technology and AI solutions that can enhance operational efficiency.
• Organised and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritise effectively, and maintain high standards of accuracy.
• Comfortable working with data, including supporting the development of reporting templates and visual dashboards.
• Proficient in technology and systems with the ability to learn new systems quickly.
• Has experience line managing or supervising others or can demonstrate equivalent experience.
